RECORD TEXT FIGURES IN JUNE 06
England's World Cup Campaign encouraged fans to notch up record figures for text messaging last month. Figures released today by the Mobile Data Association (MDA) show that 112 million messages were sent on average per day throughout June, with the total monthly figure topping 3.37 billion. Person-to-person texts sent across the UK GSM network operators last month show an increase of almost 30% on the total sent during the same period in 2005. In the first six months of 2006 over 18 billion person-to-person text messages were sent in the UK, well on the way to the MDA's annual forecast of 36.5 billion.

MAY SETS AN ALL TIME TEXT HIGH
May 2006 saw text messaging figures reach an all time high exceeding all previous records to deliver 3.3 billion messages, according to data released today by the Mobile Data Association (MDA).
Person-to-person texts sent across the UK GSM network operators during May show an increase of 26% on the total sent during the same period in 2005, and beats the previous record of 3.2 billion set in March this year. This figure equates to 106 million messages being sent per day, the highest average daily figure recorded to date.

NINE OUT OF TEN BRANDS…
Nearly nine in ten major UK brands are planning to shift more of their marketing resources to mobile platform over the next two years, according to new research.
An independent survey of 50 brand name companies commissioned by mobile technology firm Airwide Solutions, found that by 2008 89% of brands will use text and multimedia messaging to reach their audience.
Nearly one-third are planning to spend in excess of 10% of marketing budgets on the medium. In five years over half of brands (52%) expect to spend between 5% and 25% of total marketing budget on mobile marketing.
Two fifths (40%) of brands have already deployed text messaging campaigns.
